Grid Information Services for Distributed Resource Sharing
نویسندگان
چکیده
Grid technologies enable large-scale sharing of resources within formal or informal consortia of individuals and/or institutions: what are sometimes called virtual organizations. In these settings, the discovery, characterization, and monitoring of resources, services, and computations can be challenging due to the considerable diversity, large numbers, dynamic behavior, and geographical distribution of the entities in which a user might be interested. Hence, information services are a vital part of any Grid software infrastructure, providing fundamental mechanisms for discovery and monitoring, and thus for planning and adapting application behavior. We present here an information services architecture that addresses performance, security, scalability, and robustness requirements. Our architecture defines low-level enquiry and registration protocols that make it easy to incorporate individual entities into information structures, including aggregate directories supporting different query languages and discovery strategies. These protocols can also be combined with other Grid protocols to construct additional higher-level services and capabilities such as brokering, monitoring, fault detection, and troubleshooting. Our architecture has been implemented as MDS-2, which forms part of the Globus Grid toolkit and has been widely deployed and applied.

Regarded as the following step of conventional distributed computing, grid computing becomes more and more popular. It puts the focus on large-scale resource sharing, including new pervasive technologies. To allow heterogeneous entity to share their resource, and more interesting their information and their knowledge, it is necessary to propose solution for integration and interoperability. Our...

rid computing has emerged as an important new field, distinguished from conventional distributed computing by its focus on large-scale resource sharing, innovative applications, and, in some cases, high-performance orientation. Grid technologies support flexible, secure, coordinated resource sharing among dynamic collections of individuals, institutions, and resources. While these technologies ...
متن کاملCoordinated Resource Provisioning in Federated Grids
A fundamental problem in building large scale Grid resource sharing system is the need for efficient and scalable techniques for discovery and provisioning of resources for delivering expected Quality of Service (QoS) to users’ applications. The current approaches to Grid resource sharing based on resource brokers are non-coordinated since these brokers make scheduling related decisions indepen...
متن کاملAuthorization Framework for Resource Sharing in Grid Environments
Grid data sharing services provide a unified platform for dynamic discovery, access and sharing of distributed data in Grid environments. A common authorization system is needed to provide access control for both Grid data sharing services as well as the data resources that are being shared through these services, accommodating different security requirements from the service providers and the ...
متن کاملAn Overview of the Gridline Project
Grid computing leverages and generalises distributed computing by focusing on large scale resource sharing for high performance and innovative applications. The Gridline project aims to develop a set of advanced optimisation services, based on constraint technology, which add efficiency to this generalised sharing. This position paper details three demonstrators and presents important modelling...
